It\u2019s getting in the of meals, and it has even started to distract you\nfrom your work. It might get to the point that you feel like you\u2019d rather get\nrid of the tooth altogether rather than deal with the pain anymore. But while\nyou should definitely see a dentist to stop the constant discomfort that you\u2019re\nsuffering from, that doesn\u2019t necessarily mean that an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donlandsfamilydentistry.ca\/tooth-extractions.html\">extraction<\/a>\nshould be your first choice of treatment. Keep reading to learn more about the\nreal reason your tooth is in pain \u2013 as well as what you might be able to do to\nsave it instead of having it removed!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Do You Have a Toothache?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pain that occurs in or around a particular tooth could have\nany number of causes. Underlying reasons might include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Tooth decay that wasn\u2019t treated in the earlier\nstages<\/li><li>A form of gum disease <\/li><li>An abscess that has formed around the root of\nthe tooth<\/li><li>Constant grinding or clenching of the teeth at\nnight<\/li><li>A piece of food caught in your smile<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A visual examination and an X-ray will help your dentist\ndetermine the real cause of the toothache as well as the true severity of the\nsituation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Can a Toothache be Treated?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Naturally, just as there are different causes for\ntoothaches, there is also a variety of treatments available. If it\u2019s as simple\nas a stuck piece of food, you can normally resolve the situation all by\nyourself with dental floss or a salt water rinse. On the other hand, if the tooth\nin question has a cavity, you\u2019re likely to need a filling. And in the case of an\ninfection, you will likely need a root canal to stop the damage from spreading\nany further; antibiotics could also be prescribed if swelling has occurred. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When is an Extraction Needed?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Bear in mind that extraction will be the very last option\nthat your dentist considers. There are many long-term health consequences of\nlosing a tooth \u2013 an imbalanced bite, dental drift, loss of bone in the jaw, and\nso on \u2013 that should be avoided at all costs if possible. But if a toothache is\nlinked to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donlandsfamilydentistry.ca\/emergency-dentistry.html\">emergency\nissue<\/a> that has already destroyed most of the tooth\u2019s structure or poses a threat\nto your overall oral health, removing it could be the only choice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As distressing as a toothache can be, it\u2019s important to\nremain calm when searching for a solution.
